Why I Don’t Celebrate Sabbats

When you enter the world of witchcraft and paganism you're bound to hear things about the wheel of the year at some point. The wheel of the year is a cycle of eight holidays, called sabbats. These celebrations generally have Celtic or Germanic origins and are most popularly celebrated by practitioners of Wicca. Four of these holidays are marked by the solstices and equinoxes, with the other four being at the midpoints between them. Eventually I'll put together a post that explains all of the sabbats, but I want to discuss something different today... If you're not paying attention to…

Norse Mythology – Basics

Norse mythology is a huge topic. This is only going to be a brief introduction to its structure, deities, and stories. I'm going to do my best keep things fairly simple today. I'm still learning and clarifying things for myself, so don't expect perfection! My main sources at the moment are Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology and Dr. Jackson Crawford's YouTube channel. As I get in to other sources (which I most definitely plan on doing) I may find the need to update/change information in this or add my own personal views when appropriate. Let's start out with the beginning of…

Deity as a Pantheist

In one of my more recent posts I talked about different types of theisms and that I am a pantheist. A common question that comes up is how can you connect to or worship deity as a pantheist? This is something that has been on my mind recently so I wanted to explore it a little more today. *As with all my longer posts, there is a pinnable summary image at the bottom ;) * how would you follow a deity if you don't believe in god(s)? This is the big question. How could it even make sense to worship…

Theism – What does it mean and what are the types?

Theism - not what I was intending to write about today. I was originally going to write today's post about magic. But as I was getting ready to do that I realized I'm not currently developing my magical practice so I wasn't all that inspired. And while I want to provide you with useful information, especially the important basics like defining magic, I also need to learn about topics that will help me on my own journey. So I decided I'd write about theism today. I've been focusing a lot more lately on my beliefs rather than on my practice.…

Wicca and Witchcraft – Are They the Same Thing?

I mentioned in a previous post defining paganism that Wicca is considered a Pagan religion, or more specifically Neo-Pagan. But I didn't tell you much about what Wicca is. I'm not going to tell you all about Wicca today, that'll happen later. But I am going to clarify a common misconception that Wicca and Witchcraft are synonymous. In case you haven't guessed, they're not. Otherwise I wouldn't be writing this post! To get started let's take a little look at both Wicca and Witchcraft A (Very) Little Bit about Wicca As previously explained, Wicca is a Neo-Pagan religion. This means…

Paganism – What is it?

I can’t very well have a blog about finding a Pagan path without defining what Paganism even is. Well, I could. But it’s kind of important information The definition of Pagan or Paganism varies depending on where you look. *Heads up - This is a bit of a long one. If reading isn't your thing scroll down to the bottom for a pinnable TL;DR image!* From Merriam-Webster Dictionary: Heathen. especially : a follower of a polytheistic religion (as in ancient Rome) One who has little or no religion and who delights in sensual pleasures and material goods: an irreligious or…
